After much deliberation, I decided to head to NW OK for a chase. The deliberation was caused by the unavailability of anyone to join me. Ultimately, the setup was too close and looked too good for me to stay at home. So, I took off west on I40 in the early afternoon.
I exited off I40 and headed north in western OK. As I neared Arnett, I began receiving data about tor warned storms to the NW along the OK/TX panhandle borders. I caught up to the first storm near Laverne. The storm had produced a tornado roughly 30 minutes before I caught it. By the time I arrived though, the storm had become outflow dominate and had undercut the mesocyclone.
I decided not to waste my time, and backtracked toward another storm in the NE TX panhandle. The storm was impressive looking, with a beautiful clear slot and mesocyclone about 30 miles away as I drove toward it. The road network would not allow me to approach the storm without core punching, which I decided against due to very large hail the storm was producing. I waited just south of Follett for the cell to approach, since I had a visual of the inflow area anyway. The storm was tor warned as it approached, although I never saw a tornado. As it neared, it too became under cut by outflow.
I took off for the tail-end charlie forming SW of Canadian for one last shot. The decision was a good one as the previous two storms became under cut to the point that all warnings were allowed to expire. The storm near Canadian became outflow dominant before it ever really got started. I filled up in Canadian, grabbed a quick bite, and headed home. Not a bad chase, as I observed some good structure and two tor warned storms. The outflow domination won out in the end though.
