We set out for Sayre at 1:18pm CDT from the UPS parking lot. Upon arriving we went through the usual routine of checking data at the Flying J as we waited for storm initiation. Storms fired near Canadian, TX on the boundary left from 4/25 storms. In fact, the storms trained over mostly the same path from the day before. Thus, we found ourselves driving back and forth over the same highways as we did on Saturday. The cells would briefly form mesocyclones, and trained between Roll and Vici, OK. Some of the wall clouds did produce funnel clouds and a few very brief touchdowns. However, we never could quite get into a good position at the right time.
We found ourselves driving back and forth between Roll and vici during most of the chase. New cells went up in SW OK, and after much discussion (and disagreement) the decision was made to head south (toward home) to intercept the new cells. It turned out to be a great decision as all cells began to decrease in intensity as insolation was lost, and I made it to work well before the daily meeting.
