We set out for Sayre around 2:25pm. Upon arriving we checked data at the Flying J as we waiting for storm initiation. Storms began to fire across the border in Texas, and traveled north on Hwy. 283 to Roll, OK. The storm became tor warned at that time and we followed it east on Hwy 47. The storm had a nice wall cloud for about 10 minutes. SPC reported a tornado near Roll. Unfortunately, it must have briefly occurred at a time when our vision was obscured.
Storms began training on a boundary from Roll to Vici. We headed toward Vici as it began to get dark. Due to new storms that had fired to our SW, we decided to follow the Vici storms eastward. This proved to be a mistake as new cells trained towards Fairview, and we drove in heavy rain and occasional pea to marble sized hail for a few hours. We finally decided to core punch the southern storm when we arrived in Fairview so we could eventually get home. On the way back, we found out that a tornado had touched down in Enid, and a tornado warning was issued for Fairview as well. Figures...we bailed too early after hours of a frustrating drive through the torrential downpour.
