Bow Echo

Randy Baker was in town for a conference in Norman and I took him out for a chase. He brought his Wx Works system with him to test drive in an actual chase situation before our late May trip. The conditions were marginal at best, but we headed out toward a storm that fired in NW Oklahoma. The storm was drifting very slowly SE along an outflow boundary. The storm then took a turn and began to move NE toward the Kansas border. It never did organize into a classic supercell though. We followed the storm to Medicine Lodge, Kansas. An MCS had formed to the north and west of our location so we decided to setup south and get some lightning pictures. Unfortunately, we setup where a rear-notch inflow developed. A bow echo formed and quickly over took our location. Heavy wind and rain followed and we headed back to OKC, with a nice light show most of the way.
