Switchback

Zac and I decided to head toward Tulsa, where it looked like an outbreak of severe storms could occur in Eastern Oklahoma.  Once we reached Tulsa, storms fired and warnings were in place on storms to the north and east.  We opted to chase east on Hwy. 412 to increase our chances to intercept a storm.  Kris White kept us informed with throughout the chase with radar updates from Duluth.  We intercepted a storm just east of Chouteau, which produced a funnel cloud that made it halfway to the ground before lifting.  We followed the storm north and east toward Spavinaw Lake, which turned out to be a mistake.  The road made it's way into the hills of eastern OK, and was full of switchbacks.  The storm left us in it's wake, due to our decreased speed because of the road network.  The chase was called because we were out of position to catch any more storms.  We did see damage on our way home from a March 12 tornado that crossed Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 412.
